Acoustic Guitar Lessons can be found in all different kinds of formats online. Videos, Audio and then there’s Chord Charts, Standard Notation, Lead Sheets and of course Tablature. All these different ways of writing down music can be confusing for people looking for easy acoustic guitar lessons. I’ll explain more in a bit, but first congratulations are in order!
If you’ve been following along with the previous lessons you should be very proud of yourself! It’s not even a week and you can already play your first song. Well done! Make sure you get those chord changes up to speed and get ready for 2 new chords C & G this week.
In this video I’d like to talk about Bars & Beats for a second so you can understand the basic pulse of music. As I mentioned above there are many different ways in which you can write music down. I really think it’s very important that you learn how to read basic chord charts. All our acoustic guitar lessons use this form of notation so it’s a good idea to get familiar with it.
This is some very basic stuff but you need to know all about bars, beats and repeat signs. In a nutshell this is how pro’s write down or notate music. I just don’t get how some people miss this very important point and use those silly charts with the words/lyrics and chords on top. Sure that can work fine if you know the song but what happens when you’re learning new material? If you understand how bars, beats and repeat signs work then you’d be able to play pretty much any song whether you’ve heard it before or not. So I’m sure you’d agree that’s some pretty cool stuff to know? In today’s video we’re carrying on with the acoustic guitar for beginners series and I’ll teach you how to read basic chord charts.
